Finding a perfect wine and dessert pairing could make your taste buds sing. Unfortunately, some people are still making this wine and dessert pairing mistake. It is time to put the bitterness aside and enjoy the sweet life.

Wine and dessert pairings seem like the perfect romance. While some food and flavors are a match made in heaven, one flavor combination has an added ingredient that shouldn’t be on the table. Even though people’s preferred flavors should serve as a guide, there is a little science behind this wine and dessert pairing mistake.

During a recent virtual ALDI event, brand partner Sarah Tracey explained this wine and dessert pairing mistake. In her opinion, a robust Cabernet Sauvignon should not be paired with a dark chocolate. The tannins in the Cabernet Sauvignon tend to highlight the bitterness within the dark chocolate. If you have ever wondered why there is some bitterness when you enjoy this food and wine pairing, now you know.

What is a better wine and dessert pairing?

While a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is a popular choice for a special dinner, Tracey believes that wine can pair with other dessert options. Instead of a chocolate dessert, she recommends a luscious cheesecake.

For example, she recommended pairing the ALDI 30 Miles Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon with the ALDI cheesecake bites. The combination of the rich, yet slightly tart cheesecake with the robust wine offers a lovely complement of flavors.

Although not exactly the cheese course, it is a nice way to end of meal. Plus, the little cheesecake bites let you choose how indulgent you want to be. Whether it is a two bite evening or a full sampler plate, the options are yours.

While chocolate and wine can make lovely food fellows, care is needed with those flavor combinations. While you can complement or contrast flavors, it is best to understand why the pairings should or should not work.

Even though personal flavor preferences are always paramount, there can be a reason why a certain taste might not be quite as good as it could be. Food and wine should always been enjoyable. And, there is always another bottle that can be opened.
